The Iraos Empire
I have been involved with Micronations for about 2 years now and have finally taken up the challange of running my own serious micronation.
Just check it out if you want:
http://theiraosempire.webs.com/
Constructive Critism welcome but note all the pages haven't been designed yet. And I do live near the island that we have claim over.
Also I plan on visiting the island soon and erecting our national flag on top of the Palace.
Regards
King Jordan

Re: The Iraos Empire
Yeah. You do know that empires have emperors as Head of State, right?
So, how do you plan on achieving recognized sovereignty for your micronation?

Actually, not all of them. Russian Empire had tsar and Mongols had Khan... Both are non-English, I know, but what about British Empire? I thought Victoria was called the Queen, not the Empress...
Anyway calling an island 'empire' is fine unless you want to gain recognition not only with other micronations, but a truly international one

Queen Victoria, however, held the title Empress of India from 1876 and her male successors held that title in the masculine form, until it was formally abandoned on 22 June 1948 during the reign of George VI.pawelabrams wrote:Actually, not all of them. Re: The Iraos Empire
Simple. I plan on conquering the Island or buying it.
Re: The Iraos Empire
Nothing, I mean nothing at all, is simple about either of those solutions mo chara.
I'm not trying to discourage buying the land, in fact that's a fantastic goal that can fuel the drive necessary to achieve the success required to afford an island. But by announcing you plan to conquer the land you've admitted to conspiring to commit a crime. The use of force is no longer (hasn't been since the 1800s) a legal way of conducting your real estate transactions. Don't get yourself in trouble.
In the end buying it just gives you ownership of the property, subject to the taxes, laws, and control of Ireland. How do you plan to sever those ties and be sovereign?

Re: The Iraos Empire
Ahaha! Conquering?! Really now, why don't you just go stand in front of Parliament with a placard that says "I'm a Terrorist! Arrest me!"? The Irish couldn't do it with a whole army, and you'll never do it period. Buying the island, however, is at least an attainable goal. Although, even if you buy it, that doesn't mean they'll just up and let you secede. The British government won't even let a rusty, falling-down old pile of scrap metal in the North Sea [Sealand] secede.King Jordan Kennedy wrote:Simple. I plan on conquering the Island or buying it.
On a positive note, I do like the website and history page. Would be nice if you explained the etymology of the country's name, esp. seeing as how you explained the previous names of the island.

I agree with my esteemed colleagues here. How do you plan on achieving sovereignty after you've bought the island? Alternatively, after you're released from jail having served a probably pretty lengthy term for terrorist crimes?

Re: The Iraos Empire
In fairness I think the direct conquest route is more along the lines of treason and rebellion (or a war of aggression if the chap isn't Irish) rather than terrorism. The sentencing tariffs are probably subtly different.
Normally I'm fairly strongly against secessionists but since it is the Republic of Ireland we're talking about - sure why not. If you can obtain title deeds to the island, and put together a modest detachment of light infantry capable of holding the island against the Gardai and the Irish Defence Forces whilst you alter the *ahem* constitutional status of that island, as well as sufficient provisions to ride out being isolated from the mainland in a protracted blockade if you're not immediately arrested or shot, then you sir will have my unbridled admiration and respect.

Re: The Iraos Empire
As for calling me a "Terrorist", I was just using "Conquering" as an expression. We are in no ways a violent Micronation, I would like to buy the Island yes and I have been in contact with the owners and if and when Iraos becomes a functioning Micronation I plan on offering the owners of the Island citizenship. Although that might be hard in the future as I believe the owners are in financial difficulty and the Island could be transfered to NAMA at anytime. Although NAMA would then sell the island at way below its current price of 150.000 euros.
As for what do with the island. The island is so close to the land 2-3 times a year you can walk over at low tide. It is only 1 mile between the island and the mainland.
As for ceeding from Ireland. I don't think Ireland would take as violent approach as the United Kingdom or USA would if someone tried to ceed from the country. So for the people saying that shots would be fired I highly doubt that. Also seems that Ireland would be our closest Neighbour I would prefer to work with them instead of what most Micronations try to do which is to fight them and ignore there neighbours.
Just reading through the Irish Constitution. The Irish Army can only fight in an Armed Rebellion.
This would mean if we non-violently seeded from Ireland it would be ok.
Article 39:
"Treason shall consist only in levying war against the state, or assisting any State or person inciting or conspiring with any other person to levy a war against the state, or attempting by force of arms or other violent means to overthrow the organs of government established by the constitution, or taking part or being concerned in or inciting or conspiring with any person to make or take part in any such attempt"
Just like Sealand or the Principiltity in Australia, The Government would most likely just leave the person alone.

Re: The Iraos Empire
So it would be okay if you non-violently seceded? I highly doubt it. When the tax collectors come around and you refuse to pay, you will get a visit from the Garda, regardless of what sign you've put on the island.

When did I say I wouldn't pay taxes? I would still be a Citizen Of Ireland as well. There is too much generalisation in Micronationism that every serious Micronation does the same thing.

If you plan on paying Irish taxes, in what way would the island be sovereign?
