Hi, my name's Allison Young, and I've recently become interested in micronations. I've been dabbling in conlanging for a year or two and this eventually lead me to micronations (I assume a fair bit of micronationalists are also conlangers.) Anyways, after reading about the topic for a few days, I have decided to take the plunge and join a micronation. The only problem is, there're so many, and I'm not sure which ones will suit me best, so maybe someone could help me? I don't want to join a micronation that is super serious and complicated, but something that is more fun, without being totally silly all the time. I also love activities like conlanging and conculture, so micronations were I could help do that would be great! Any help will be appreciated :)
Thanks,
Alli

Welcome to the community! Great to see a fellow conlang-er joining-in, and always refreshing to see a female micronationalist :)

In regards to joining a nation - without sounding too much like I'm advertising! - Craitland could fit the bill. We're definitely not serious, and are known for being laid-back with how we do things. We have a conlang (Craitish) and quite a unique culture. We're also extremely involved in micronational sports, if that takes your fancy too :P

Remember, you don't just have to be part of one nation either, although starting-off in only one is probably best to begin with!

Welcome to the community. Glad to hear you are a creatively-driven person, and also that you are looking to join a nation. Most new members of our community come saddled with their own new micronation that is set out to be the very best, like no one ever was...

As a starting point, check out the Bastion community. We're sort of a sub-set of micronations that share common forums and general discussion space, but we vary wildly. I'm involved in Shireroth (a patchwork quilt of dozens of tiny counties and cultures, languages and histories, all arranged in feudal-federal government - largest and oldest nation on Micras) but there are plenty others - the Neo-Persian Archbastardy of Babkha (basically the baddies of Micras, with style and the twang of a moustache); the Flying Islands of Nelaga, unfortunately about to crash; the silent halls of the United States of Antica; Elwynn, Shireroth's annoying little brother who is frustratingly good at most things after splitting from us; Gralus, a massive magic empire; Natopia - land of paint-made images and buttery bovines; then Batavia and its cousin South Batavia, which are primarily Dutch-language. Smaller projects still getting started include Sanilla (also broke from Shireroth) and Treisenberg. Sanilla has several conlang projects on the go and looking for more interest in that department. Take a look at our forums and see if you fancy joining any of the nations - most people on the forum are citizens of several states, which is made easy by the single registration on one forum.

Perhaps you could join Elwynn, it is lead by the nicest person in micronationalism (which is not me) and has a conlang. It is not completely serious, for example they have human rights in the constitution, if that is not going to crack you up I don't know what can.

Hey!

Conlanging is a bit what brought me to micronations too. None of my conlangs are really good. In "my" country, Elwynn, there are a few conlangs around. Elw and Hurmumol are a priori ones while Amokolian and Hurmu-Farewell Norse are based off real languages. And then there's Lontinian that is largely forgotten these days. It was, IIRC, based on Mongolian. Mehl is spoken too as well as Babkhi (our term for Persian though there was a conlang of the same name).

I don't know if you've seen the mapof our planet. Elwynn is the dark blue country with most of its land in the north-western continent. I was elected Prince of Elwynn about a month ago. When I swore my oath I did it in a few of Elwynn's languages (my Elw really sucked though!).

Elwynn has a long history and if you're interested I'll tell you about it. I won't bore you with that... :p

And then there's Natopia (I am the husband of the Chancellor of Natopia and King of Ziegeland). There are many languages, many of them not developed there at all, and Natopia's culture is less serious and formal than Elwynn's. The major religion is based off worshipping butter (but as all religions, developed to theology, dogma and divine revelation). See this thread for example.

Both Elwynn and Natopia are hosted on the Bastion Union board. Other countries there are Gralus (with Tokish as the coolest conlang), Nelaga (which is going to die any minute), Antica (dead all but officially), Shireroth (has a lot of conlangs too!), Babkha (if you're in to being evil and being cool about it), Batavia (Dutch-speaking), Jingdao and South Batavia (also Dutch-speaking), Treisenberg and Sanilla (has a few conlangs too!)

We are working on a con-lang in the Empire of Jingdao and South Batavia too, at this moment we have decided that "ha" is our preferred way of greeting, the rest will come later.

Good to see a newcomer!

'Nice' to see that none of the above contributors mentioned that two of the largest and oldest nations in the sector that *aren't* part of the Bastion community - the empire of the alexandrians and the kingdom of Stormark...

The sector has it's own wiki at http://www.micras.org/wiki - I suggest you have a look at the content there, but it's updated on quite an ad-hoc basis so I don't know if what you want to look at will be up to date.

Elw is a highly development conlang, which is spoken in the Union state of Elwynn, parts of Shireroth and parts of the Republic of Ashkenatza (the micronation I'm involved in - we've got our own Elw-speaking region, the Trans-Elwynn). There are also a few Shirethan languages that I believe are conlang, but a lot of languages on Micras are generally ones taken from an earth template that are regarded to be an analogue (along with their culture) to the culture upon which it was based on earth. In addition the Malan'je - one of the oldest peoples on Micras - have their own language supposedly, and there's a bit of information out there on it, but not a lot, which makes developing the Malan'je province of the RoA (their ancestral homelands are part of the republic) difficult, as Ashkenatza generally tries to maintain the cultures from the peoples who join it and keep developing them and add them to a 'mixing pot'.

You can find out more about us here (http://micras.org/wiki/index.php?title=Ashkenatza) and by visiting our forums (http://www.ashkenatza.net)

In addition to all the nations mentioned above, there's mine own -- Safiria -- a micronation based around a conworld of the same name, with a resident conspecies (the Safir -- spacefaring psychic blue-blooded elflike beings), and a widely-spoken, under-development conlang (Xylphika) that I'd very muh enjoy some assistance with. Also, if you join us, you get free Shirithian citizenship as well :)
