Re: 2019 MHL World Championships
Final
Mercury and Senya met for the final of the 2019 MHL World Championships, their second encounter of the competiton, with Senya holding the advantage after a 5–2 win in the Conference stage, and on the hunt for a third World title. Mercury came into the game after a nervy 1–0 win over Birgeshir, who they beat to win the 2018 Micras Games title, which came after a 4–3 quarter-final win over today's opponents Senya.
Defenceman Zac Kennedy was sent to the Mercury penalty box after hooking Rhys Packford (03:15), but the Senyans were unable to capitalise on the powerplay, with Mercury icing the puck several times to see out the two minutes. Mercury were able to take the lead through Davidsen (06:09), after a long spell of pressure in the Senyan zone, and shortly after, were given the opportunity to double their lead, after George Phillis was sent to the box for slashing (10:43). Nikaĵ's best efforts to keep the score at 1–0 were in vain, as captain Owen Fraser was able to send the puck into the roof of the net. Senya hit back quickly however, winning the face-off and taking the puck down the ice, with a series of passes eventually finding Laurence Kennedy, in opportune position to fire the puck past Thomas Garnett (12:31). Mercury lost a centre to the penalty box, as Logan Shaw was called for holding, but again they managed to frustrate Senya's powerplay line, and keep their slender advantage intact. The Senyans continued their pressure despite Mercury going back to full strength, however, and finally got the tying goal through Michael Hatter (18:31).
Senya again showed their credentials, with Aleks Mitrengen firing them into a 3–2 lead from the blue line past an unsighted Garnett (25:29). Mercury found themselves on the powerplay again just shy of the half-way mark, as Winchester was sent to the box for interference (29:41), and grabbed another goal on the man-advantage to level the scores at 3–3 through Dennis Haagensen (31:37). Mercury's Daniel Chambers gave the Senyans a late chance to retake the lead in the second, following his penalty for charging, but again, Mercury's penalty-kill kept the Senyans out, and the score tied going into the third and final period.
Mercury had the best of the early chances, with Davidsen's close-range bullet somehow being kept out of the net by Nikaĵ (43:28). Both sides were very careful not to give any edge away, and although Zac Kennedy was lucky to stay out of the penalty box after a questionably late hit on Oliver Templeton (48:07), and similarly George Phillis avoided a second visit to the box despite appearing to trip Reg Weeks (52:39). Mercury found themselves in a spot of bother after giving the puck away centre ice, and were kept in the game thanks to Garnett's acrobatics on a number of occasions, but Senya's extended period of pressure was noticeably affecting the Mercurian side. Villejin's mid-range shot (56:12) again tested Garnett, who was equal to it, and Packford was unlucky not to be able to get a tip onto Posjek's pass (57:10). A misplaced pass from Ĵinæter allowed Mercury a much-needed line change, and a refreshed Ellis Reynolds was able to use his strength to dispossess Ollie Grahamson, with Reynolds winning the ensuing foot race and was able to out-deke Nikaĵ to steal the victory (58:56).
█ Senya 3–4 Mercury █ – (2–2, 1–1, 0–1)
PIM: 4–6 (2–4, 2–2, 0–0); Shots on goal: 32–30 (12–11, 10–10, 10–9)

Re: 2019 MHL World Championships
Quite surprised to see Mercury win, since the only time they managed to go past the Quarter-finals was in the 2017 World Cup where they stopped at the Elimination semi-finals. Senya,on the other hand,is one of the big teams.
However,Mercury showed to be good during the Micras Games. So the team has improved a lot recently.
Congrats to the new Champs.

Re: 2019 MHL World Championships
As much as I'm dissapointed by Senya's defeat, I think it's good to see Mercury win, especially as Joe has a way bigger interest in the sport than me and he's put a fair amount of effort into both Mercurian hockey and the MHL in recent years.
